THE City of Casey Chilean community will host a fundraiser in Berwick to support the survivors of last month’s Concepcion earthquake.

Hampton Park resident Laura Fuentes decided to organise the event to support her home country and the family and friends of the 700 people who died.

Ms Fuentes knows many people who were affected, including her family who live in Valparaiso, which is eight hours from the epicentre.

Ms Fuentes has had some contact with her mother, but has to wait for her to call when she can. “My mum was affected and my sister,” she said.

Ms Fuentes has been grateful for the donations she has received for the fundraiser and said there would be a raffle on the night.

It will be a multicultural event with different dance troupes from Chile, New Zealand and Mauritius, as well as food and music from South America.

Ms Fuentes said she didn’t want Australia to forget that Chile would need ongoing support.

She has created a PowerPoint presentation to remind people of the devastation.

The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, 20 March from 5pm to midnight at the Berwick Leisure Centre, 79 Manuka Road.

Entry is a donation of $10, with all proceeds going towards the Red Cross in Chile.
