NARRE Warren North residents say Fox Road is the forgotten street in Casey.

The busy road has no footpath and a group of residents want Casey Council to create one for the safety of the community.

The group handed a 192-signature petition to the council last week.

Resident Marie Majstorovic said the road was often dangerous for pedestrians, particularly before and after school when there was a high amount of traffic.

“There are many families in the area, mothers with prams, and people walking and jogging who are forced to walk on the road,” she said. The mother of three said streets nearby had footpaths.

Fox Road resident Caitriona Jabke said cars often sped up and down the road.

“I’d like to be able to walk my children to and from school but it’s just not safe enough,” she said.

“I want my kids to be fit and healthy, not lazy. We pay the rates so we should be entitled to a footpath.”

Bob Street, a life member of the Narre Warren North Community Association, said a footpath was needed.

“I’ve lived in the area since 1939 and back then a footpath wasn’t needed because there wasn’t much traffic,” he said.

“But these days it’s a reasonable busy road, in an area which is growing at a tremendous rate.”

Four Oaks Ward councillor Shar Balmes said safety was important.

“We want these children to enjoy the benefits of exercise, fresh air and to be safe,” she said.

“All the residents want is to be able to walk securely down their street.”

Cr Balmes described Fox Road as one of the “lushest streets” in Narre Warren North.

Council officers are investigating the possibility of creating a footpath along Fox Road and are set to report back to the council in April.
