YARRAVILLE Club will defend its Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division premiership in a grand final rematch against Airport West/St Christopher’s beginning this Saturday, after the Clubbers’ draw with South Caulfield on the weekend.

The two storms that hit Melbourne across the weekend made it hard for either semi-final reach a result, and the Clubbers were able to avoid being bowled out to secure a ticket to the grand final, on the basis of being higher ranked than South Caulfield.

South Caulfield batted first and made 4/122 off 36 overs, needing to allow enough overs to bowl the Clubbers out, but the hosts were able to bat the remaining overs out, finishing on 1/72 off 21 overs.

Andy Cullen finished on 34 not out, while Michael O’Keefe made an unbeaten 25.

Anthony Cristofaro was the sole Clubbers scalp, falling for six runs.

With the ball, Colin Smart led the wicket-takers with 2/37 off 15 overs, including six maidens, while Emmett Bronca and O’Keefe chipped in with a wicket apiece.

The grand final is a four-day encounter, starting this Saturday, with the Clubbers hoping to win back-to-back flags.
