HAIR today, gone tomorrow. Well, almost.

Yarraville resident Koray Hasanoglu will get a head start on the competition this Thursday when he becomes one of the first people to shave off his locks for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

Koray, 11, has spent the past year growing out his usually short hair to a thick mass of waves.

He hopes to raise $500 from the big chop, and has already collected $300. He also hopes to donate his hair to create wigs for cancer sufferers.

“I thought it would be fun to do something for charity,” the Grade 6 Yarraville West Primary School student said.

Koray is dedicating the shave to family friend and Seddon resident Elly Lienert, who battled and survived leukaemia, aged nine.

He is keen to be rid of his shoulder-length do, saying that although it had kept him warm in winter, it had become annoying in summer.

Over 125,000 people are expected to join Koray this weekend and shave or colour their hair.

All money raised will fund free services to support patients and families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.

It will also fund blood cancer research to find better treatments and cures.

To sponsor Koray, call 1800 500 088 or visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com
