THE Manor Lakes Residents Association will fold in weeks unless new members come to the rescue.
Vice-president Fiona Fox said the group was forced to get by without a secretary or president.
She said the former executive team resigned due to personal commitments.
“We have really struggled to get a strong membership base,” she said.
“Lots of people contact us and ask for our assistance but getting people to come to the meetings is difficult.”
The association was formed two years ago and now has 30 members.
“There are so many people moving into the estate,” Ms Fox said.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to be active in the community and have a say.
“There is strength in numbers to get things done.”
Wyndham only has three resident groups covering Point Cook, Werribee South and Tarneit to be a voice for the growing community.
Ms Fox said the association had launched a number of campaigns.
“We have worked really hard to help people get their phones connected,” she said.
“When people moved into the estate Telstra had not put the phone lines in.
“For about six months people did not have land lines so as a group we were able to get them connected.”
They successfully lobbied the council last year to have street lighting along Ballan Rd.
The group holds political clout as a number of councillors and the mayor regularly attend the meetings.
Ms Fox said the executive team had worked hard to be more accessible to the community.
“We have invested in building a website for the association, where people can participate in discussions and give feedback so we can reach a different demographic
“We don’t want to have to fold now.”
The association meets on the last Wednesday night of every month.
