“IT puts the image of Werribee down, like we are scum.”
That’s how Werribee resident Lori McLean described the pile up of rubbish at the Hoppers Crossing railway station.
Rubbish has been left strewn beside an overflowing skip behind the railway platform, adding to concerns about the misuse of unwanted items scattered near charity bins across the municipality.
Ms McLean said the stash of items had been there for months.
“There are old TVs, timber and old carpet, it’s a disgrace,” she said.
“It’s the worse I’ve seen, people get off the trains and what will they think of this place.”
Ms McLean has called for tougher fines for people caught littering.
“It’s nobody’s fault except the people that are doing it,” she said.
“What are we doing out here, it looks like the tip.
“They have a camera there at the station they should turn it the other way.
“There needs to be patrols and people need to be fined.”
Wyndham Council introduced a new hard waste collection system last year to improve the city’s presentation and public safety problems.
It also gave residents more control over the service.
Ratepayers can now book two hard waste collections at any time of the year.
