THE Rotary Club of Cranbourne has lent a helping hand to the town’s busy support service, donating unperishable goods valued at $1500.

The club this week donated the large amount of food to the Cranbourne Information and Support Service (CISS), which continues to experience dramatic demand on its services.

CISS president George Nicol said the donation from Rotary was greatly welcomed and would make things a bit easier for people in Casey who were struggling.

“The demand for our service has increased dramatically since the Global Financial Crisis. Most days see us running out of food vouchers, often before midday, forcing us to rely on giving food parcels to individuals and families in desperate need of assistance,” Mr Nicol said.

The donation ensured CISS could provide clients with the essential, staple products such as milk, pasta, cereal and coffee, Mr Nicol said.

“Large donations like this also allow our organisation to ‘free up funds’ to assist with other emergency relief items such as Metcards and chemist vouchers.”

Cranbourne Rotary Club president Stan Bankes-Fay said the club liked to donate to the needy, and said CISS did a wonderful job in the community.

“Charity begins at home. When you know there are people that are genuinely in need, well I think that’s where we’ve got to aim out attention to.”
