WESTBOURNE Grammar student William Murray is not afraid to voice an opinion.

Despite being only 18 years old his strong ideals have been winning him accolades.

William was just awarded the Werribee Lions Club’s Youth of the Year.

He was selected to compete at the event against other pupils from across Wyndham.

His five-minute speech on the “Lessons from Cambodia” won over the judges.

“I travelled there in September to visit an orphanage that the school sponsors,” William said. “You look at that people there and they have nothing compared to us and yet they are the happiest people in the world. Happiness is a mindset not materialistic.”

He said his years of debating and being involved with the youth parliament had paid off.

The Year 12 pupil has his sights set on a career in international relations. “I want to create solutions for people who work in third world countries,” he said.
